Day Twenty-Nine

Proverbs 29:18 (Dissected and Defined):
Where there is no vision (foresight), the people perish (die): but he that keepeth the law (boundaries), happy is he.

Daily Devo Paraphrase: Why did God pair these two statements together?  They seem to have nothing to do with each other.  I admit I thought that — until God revealed its Hidden meaning as I dissected and defined it.

A colon (:) means that the next statement will further explain the previous statement.  This colon explains a Truth that is Hidden.
Next to Jesus, Solomon was the wisest man to ever live. God granted him untold peace and wealth.  He wrote then Proverbs as lessons in life that he wished to impart to his son as he trained to assume his father’s throne. Likewise, these Proverbs are inspired by God to impart to us wise lessons from the Holy Spirit.  He teaches us interpersonal skills, business techniques, marital advice, developmental truths, and many other wise teachings in and throughout this great book.

In this verse, Solomon is sharing why God has blessed him so much.  It is because Solomon had vision, coupled with boundaries.  Anyone that God uses greatly to make an impact on people’s lives must have foresight.  They must have a dream, a driving passion.  Without it, the people under them die as a result of their lack of  direction!  Whenever God gives vision, He first reveals it to a leader.  It is the job of the leader to expound upon it to his followers.  It is the role of the followers to stay within the set of boundaries set up by the leader’s vision.  “Happy is he” who follows his leader and stays within the boundaries of his laws.

If a leader gets vision from God, and then he or his followers reject Spirit-led or Scripture-specific boundaries to make that vision a reality, then they will be miserable in their pursuit of those visions. But, if in the pursuit of a Spirit-led vision, we remain within our God-given boundaries, we will experience great joy in the pursuit, progression, and possession of that great and godly vision.  Visionaries—Drive with passion! But stay inside the orange cones.
